Tips To Boost Your Website Design Efforts

Is it necessary to use costly design software and highly customized templates to create the perfect website? This depends on the amount that you would like to learn. You might need powerful software or outside consultants to build a strong website if you're unwilling or unable to learn. However, if you are willing to spend some time and effort, you can build an awesome site on your own.

Avoid using too many graphics. While graphics are important to give your website a professional, cohesive and well-designed look, using too many of them can create clutter. You should never use graphics simply to decorate your site; they are used to improve your site. Having the appropriate number of graphics that do not create clutter improves the usability of your website, too.

Always mark files that must be opened in an external program with an icon. Many sites host PDF files, and less commonly, DOC files, that must be opened in Foxit Reader and Microsoft Word/OpenOffice, respectively. These files should be marked with an icon representing the file type, and a link to download the appropriate viewer if the user does not have it.

Do not use pop-ups on your site. There is not a person out there who will want to visit a website and get overwhelmed with pop-up ads. Even large, popular websites can lose visitors by mistakenly employing pop-up ads. It's best to stay away from this type of ad to keep your visitors happy. Any host which requires you to have pop-up ads is a host you don't want to use!

Learn the basics of HTML and CSS. Although there are many templates that allow you to just fill in the blanks, in order to create a web page, these templates provide only limited design possibilities. Understanding how the mark-up language and stylesheet work together will enable you to customize your website to your heart's content.

Personalize your site. Your clients want to feel comfortable with you, so use testimonials from trusted customers, as well as photographs of people. Building trust with your customers is very important, so be sure to let them know you personally care about the product or service you are providing them.

To help make your website more attractive, incorporate some pictures that you took. Having pictures on your website gives off a more user-friendly approach to your site. When people see pictures they tend to spend more time looking at your site and cannot wait to click on the next picture.

Do not use blinking, scrolling text or other animations. Also, steer clear of sounds or music that plays automatically. All of these things are distracting to users and provide nothing of value. In addition, connection speeds vary from one site visitor to the next, and everyone does not have the same speed. Those users with slower connections will resent the slow-loading elements of your site.

Website design isn't as complex as brain surgery. You don't need a formal education, and you aren't making any life or death decisions. By following the advice provided in this article, you will definitely be able to create a fantastic website.
